About the Alternative Baker

I’ve spent years seeking out fluffy, flakey, buttery treats only to be let down by bland, crumbly disasters that tasted like baking soda and sugar. I was constantly frustrated by vegan and gluten-free bakeries. Always disappointed in recipes that asked for three kinds of flours and multiple milks and sweeteners – who has the patience or the cupboard space for that?

So, here’s the deal. This isn’t a health blog. These are indulgent, delicious treats you won’t find in the grocery store or bakeries. The recipes are mostly adapted from traditional (ie. not gluten-free) recipes from some of my favourite food bloggers, and credited as such. Occasionally my own recipes, and sometimes a combination. My goal is always to surprise people when I tell them something is free of gluten and dairy.
